Hate Studies Classes at Gonzaga

The Institute for Hate Studies has been interested in either creating new courses or helping to create an environment at Gonzaga University where faculty feel supported and encouraged to design new courses that explore hate from unique and different perspectives. We introduced our first class in spring 2009, Why People Hate, and this course is being offered again in spring 2010. The School of Business has also created a course, Hate Studies in Business, which is also being offered in spring 2010. Both courses are filled and have a waiting list to get into them.

Hate Studies in Business - This course is an interdisciplinary examination of how business can cause violence against communities and individuals and the ways in which business can challenge acts of violence.

Why People Hate: Interdisciplinary Perspectives - This interdisciplinary course explores the construct of hate from historical, psychological, sociological, organizational, and criminal justice perspectives

JOURNAL

The Gonzaga Institute for Hate Studies advances the interdisciplinary field of Hate Studies and disseminates new theories, models, and discoveries about hate.

Hate Studies consists of inquiries into the human capacity to define, and then dehumanize or demonize, an “other,” and the processes that inform and give expression to, or can curtail, control, or combat, that capacity.
