Faculty Mentees

Thank you for your interest in connecting to a faculty mentor. This new program is designed to help faculty who are creating new hate-related course and would like to connect with other faculty who have already gone through the process of building such a class from scratch. Please review this page for information about becoming a mentee. Please note, that as the program grows, we will start posting information about the mentors on the web site so you know who they are and their interests.

We ask that mentees register with the Institute so we can help better connect you to the faculty that will be of most help to you. Any person seeking a mentor will be given one. The mentee registration form (Word document) also provides all of this information. There is no deadline for the application. Though we would prefer to connect you to a mentor before you begin teaching your course, if you find you need some assistance in the middle of the semester/quarter or would just like to dialogue with another faculty member in your field doing similar work, you can still submit a registration form.

Responsibilities of the Mentee
The mentee will:
*Communicate with the mentor at least three times in the semester/quarter.
*Complete an evaluation at the end of the term. The evaluation will include strengths of the mentor program and constructive suggestions for improvement.

Eligibility Criteria
Mentees must:
Be seeking to teach a hate-related course
Be interested in dialoguing with another faculty member through e-mail or phone

Registration Process
The following items must be submitted:
A completed Mentee Registration Form
Ideally, the form is submitted before you begin teaching. However, the Institute recognizes that sometimes unanticipated needs or questions arise during the teaching of a course so please feel free to request a mentor in the middle of the semester/quarter.

JOURNAL

The Gonzaga Institute for Hate Studies advances the interdisciplinary field of Hate Studies and disseminates new theories, models, and discoveries about hate.

Hate Studies consists of inquiries into the human capacity to define, and then dehumanize or demonize, an “other,” and the processes that inform and give expression to, or can curtail, control, or combat, that capacity.
