Knowledge Management: A three-part categorization
KM draws from a wide range of disciplines and technologies and can be viewed from three distinctive approaches:
- Mechanistic Approaches
- characterized by the application of technology and resources to do more of the same better
- Cultural/behavioristic Approaches
- tend to focus more on innovation and creativity (the “learning organization”) than on leveraging existing explicit resources or making working knowledge explicit.
- Systematic Approaches
- traditional faith in rational analysis of the knowledge problem: the problem can be solved, but new thinking of many kinds is required.
