Blackboard Information

Blackboard is "course software."  In EDLD 707 we will be using Blackboard to facilitate communication, and provide additional "hands-on" experience.

Once you you have been successful in getting an account and enrolling in the class, return to the My Blackboard page, and if your are in Netscape, Book Mark it or if in Internet Exlporer, mark it as a Favorite. (Depending on the system you are using, you may be able to Book Mark the course page directly)

Enrolling in Blackboard

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE ARE DIFFERENT THAN THE INSTRUCTION FOR PREVIOUS COURSES I HAVE TAUGHT.

In the past I enrolled each student based on registration information available to me and provided a login and password. This system created major problems for students who had taken previous courses or enrolled late, and even greater problems for students who are also instructors in other courses. I have thus gone to "Open Enrollment." Under this system students (a) need to have a Blackboard account and (b) then "Enroll" in my course. After the second class, I will close the open enrollment.

If you have an account use it to login. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT IF YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE.  Go to Login below.
 

If you do not have an account, created one. Click on  "create account."

CLICK on the COURSES Tab under the word University.

COURSES PAGE and ENROLLING IN A CLASS

In the Course Search box type in
ld707s01 (NOTE the first character is the lower case L and not the number 1)

and CLICK on GO

 

CLICK on ENROLL


CLICK on SUBMIT

This should return the message:

     Self Enrollment

     Receipt: Success
     You have been successfully enrolled in Policy Analysis Spring 2001 as yourname. Click ok to continue

Blackboard includes the following links listed on the left side of the Blackboard EDLD 703 webpage.  Here is how they will be used:

• Announcements: Changes in assignments, special events, etc. Students should check Announcements at least once each week.
• Course Documents: Class List and files containing other required readings.
• Communication: Links to discussion Board for messages and idea exchanges and other communication links- specific help and information on the Discussion Board can be found in the Student Manual located in the Tools section.

Tools: Manual:  Communication:  Discussion Board: Discussion Board Introduction, etc.
• Discussion Board:  Direct link to Discussion Board
• Tools: Student Manual (for help in using Blackboard), Link for changing personal information.

Important Information:
• Posting Text to Discussion Board - When you wish to post all or part of an assignment on the Discussion Board, it is easier to first compose your assignment using a word processor program. "Copy" the text you want to post and return to the Discussion Board where you will "paste" your selection in the "message" box.  PLEASE DO NOT USE FILE ATTACHMENTS UNLESS REQUESTED.
• AOL Users - Some users of AOL may experience difficulties using the Discussion Board and Change Your Information features of Blackboard.  They will need to have an Internet browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer.  At this time I recommend Netscape users continue with version 4.7 and not got to version 6.
• Netscape Users - Some users of Netscape have reported trouble posting a second message to the Discussion Board during a single session at the computer.  Even though a message is generated claiming that the second message has been posted, it somehow never arrives.  Solution:  Use Internet Explorer to post messages to the Discussion Board or "log out," close Netscape, and then reenter to post each additional message.
• HELP - If you need assistance or have any questions regarding the use of Blackboard, contact the instructor or graduate assistant.  (Contact numbers are listed on page 1 of the syllabus.)
