Signing of Collaboration Agreement 15 November 2001

The relationship between the School of Public Management and Administration and Gonzaga University, USA was consolidated by a collaboration agreement, signed on 15 November 2001, at the Center for Leadership, University of Pretoria. The agreement signified the launch of a project intended to strengthen capacity between the University of Pretoria and Gonzaga University in the areas of leadership studies and ethical governance in democratic states. The first goal of the project is to facilitate the integration of ethics into the Ph.D. Program in Public Affairs at the University of Pretoria. The second goal of the project is to increase the global perspective of the Ph.D. programs of both universities.

The project hopes to expand and engage other African states in developing similar programs and projects. A number of academics and diplomats graced the ceremony with their presence. Also present were representatives from the US Embassy and other USAID dignitaries. The signatories of the agreement were Professor S. Vil-Nkomo, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, on behalf of the University of Pretoria, Professor Wayne Powel, Acting Academic Vice President on behalf of the Gonzaga University and Mr. John Blaney, Charge d'Affaires, United States Embassy, Pretoria. Professor J. O. Kuye from the SPMA, Mr. Keith Mokoape, Logitec Defense Logistics, Ms. S. Lisenby from the United States Embassy and Ms. R. Roginski from the United States Embassy served as witnesses.
