Gonzaga University
Course Description
The course explores the challenges of creating a new,
united, prosperous and peaceful Europe in the post-Cold War, post- 9-11, and
emerging Ònew Cold WarÓ eras. These
eras have created unprecedented opportunities for integration and cooperation as
well as creating new divisions and exacerbating old tensions. The course will use
the three main theoretical paradigms of international relations theory—realism,
institutionalism, and constructivism—to understand EuropeÕs successes and
failures in building new economic, political and cultural orders. The EuroMaidan revolution in Ukraine and its repercussions
for European security will be used a case study.
