Written Component
Each pair will turn in a description of their presentation with the
following sections:
1) a section summarizing the public policy history of your topic;
what kinds of historic background do we need to understand the
issue? when
did your issue become prominent in American political discourse and
why? what social,
political, economic changes created an opening for this discussion?
2) a section framing the issue using terms and concepts discussed in
the class, especially relating it to the American Creed and American
political culture; what values of the American Creed/culture do
opponents or proponents of your issue emphasize? which side do you
think best resonates with the essence of the American political culture?
3) a section with questions asked during the presentation to elicit
participation from the rest of the class;
4) a section on where the topic stands today and it's likely future in
American politics; what contemporary interest groups or individuals are
active in this issue? where can we go for more information on the
subject?
