Updates: A new version of the class schedule is posted, as well as updates to Lectures 9 and 10.

Thursday 22 September 2011 .

9:30 AM: The header for Lecture 8 has been updated, and there you can also find the following link to download my PowerPoint presentation for Ch.5 of our text. Note that we will not be covering any of the Ch.6 topics that you will find in the Lecture 7 and Lecture 8 webpages in their current form.

Please come by my CHEM 101L sections in HU 131 today from noon - 2:20 and 3:30 - 5:50 PM to pick up your homework (assignment #2) and get answers to any questions you may have.

Wednesday 21 September 2011 .

I know everyone is likely preoccupied with Friday's exam, but if you get a chance, check out this link:

This is so very cool, and as we delve into the topic of protein structure, we'll bring this into our discussion.

Friday 2 September 2011 .

After two class meetings, I feel we're off to a good start! I'll summarize the homework I described in class today. In light of the information, concepts, and qualitative and quantitative relationships presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of our text, and our own at least partial inventory of similar territory from the first day, describe your level of familiarity with them or your perceived readiness to apply them to biochemical questions. From what prior courses did you gain the familiarity? Be as specific as you can. You can use the section and subsection headings if you like, or feel free to categorize the subject matter in your own sensible scheme. Out of the two chapters, what if anything strikes you as novel? If there's anything you wish you had more background in, please feel free to tell me that.

I'll collect your responses next Friday, and award 15 points to everyone who engages this thoughtfully. There are of course no right answers, and it does not have to be a treatise.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Wednesday 31 August 2011 .

Welcome to Biochemistry! It's always exciting to start a new semester. We begin the course with some foundations, and we'll use the time in today's class to come up with a list of concepts from other courses in both Biology and Chemistry that will be important for biochemistry.
