Biographical Information: Matthew S. Rindge (Ph.D., Emory University) joined the Religious Studies faculty in 2008. His dissertation (Illustrating Wisdom: Luke 12:16-21 and the Interplay of Death and Possessions in Sapiential Literature) situates Luke’s parable of the Rich Fool within a broad spectrum of Jewish, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman Wisdom texts. Previous studies include Fuller Theological Seminary (M.Div.), University of Notre Dame (M.A.), and University of California at Santa Barbara (B.A.). He has taught at Emory University, Candler School of Theology, Columbia Theological Seminary, Azusa Pacific University, and in several Asia and Latin American countries. His interests are in the intersections of Biblical Studies, Popular Culture, and Ethics, and he speaks on these issues at universities and churches. At Gonzaga he teaches “Synoptic Gospels”, “Bible and Ethics”, “Bible and Film”, and “Parables and Popular Culture.” He has written essays for Feasting on the Word: Preaching the Revised Common Lectionary, and has forthcoming articles in Journal of Biblical Literature and Teaching Theology and Religion. He is also published in various popular magazines (Prism, Sojourners, Christianity and Theater). He is currently co-editing The History of Biblical Interpretation to 1835: A Reader (Westminster John Knox Press). He presents papers regularly at the Society of Biblical Literature, and serves on the Steering Committee for their Bible and American Popular Culture section.
