Thermodynamics of transport

The transmembrane difference in chemical potential determines the spontaneous direction movement.

Passive-mediated transport

Ionophores: Facilitated diffusion; transmembrane protein channels.

Active transport

Coupling vectorial transport to ATP hydrolysis. The (Na+-K+)-ATPase and Ca2+)-ATPase. ABC transporters. Secondary active transport.
